The clean blend can help tame the distortion and also makes this even more suitable for bass players than the original already was.
The expression control for the EQ adds another dimension to the playability. Note that an expression pedal with a low impedance (10K preferably) will work best. Keep in mind this is not a substitute for a wah pedal as some may think it would be, but it does add a sweepable control of the EQ, the same as manually turning the knob up and down.
